House of Joy presents the Femme! Experience – a 90-minute fusion movement class for women of colour
Femme! is a 90 minute fusion of sensual movement, meditation and celebration inspired by African, Tribal and Free Dance.
Designed in NYC by Somatic Healer, Keynote Speaker and Wellness Expert, Bernadette Pleasant, this powerful practice uses a variety of movement and musical styles to create a multisensory experience that expresses the entire body.
From your head, to your heart, to your hips, it’s an empowered, fun, fit and sexy way to warm it up, work it out, make it move, and cool it down with ease and sensuality.
“It’s your body; you can do whatever you want with it – including love it, unapologetically.”
** Dress to sweat (barefoot recommended). Bring Water. No previous dance experience required. **
Your Femme! Teacher
Joy Asibey-Gabriel is a soulful, compassionate, fun-loving teacher. A dance enthusiast, graduate of Mama Gena’s School of Womanly Arts, and a lover of all things wellness and womanhood, Joy believes that when a woman is turned on to her own brilliance, she is at her most powerful.
Hungry to see herself represented in the wellness industry, and tired of being the only brown woman in the room, Joy is cultivating a much-needed space of belonging and sisterhood, healing and celebration for women of colour in Toronto.
Joy studied under Femme! founder Bernadette Plesant and is thrilled to debut the Femme! Experience on February 24th during Black History Month, and beyond.
What women are saying
“My God, The Femme Experience is incredible and exactly what my therapist ordered. This class is therapy, is medicine, is everything my body needed and continues to need. I need this in my life on a regular bases. As a performer, I feel that this experience will allow me even more freedom on stage. It is at the core of what a humanistic experience should be. I felt my self taking huge risks in this class due to the sanctuary provided by Bernadette, her team, and the other participants. Today I screamed. Today I danced. Today I experienced and felt love. Today I felt support. Today I let myself feel. Today I liberated myself. I am so grateful!”– Jinah Parker
